This Thursday, Charleston’s vibrant hospitality community will host “A Community United,” a benefit for the families who lost loved ones in the Emanuel Church shooting on June 17th. The event will be held from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm in the Belmond Charleston Place’s Grand Ballroom.
The fundraiser will feature food and beverage from some of the city's flagship restaurants, breweries, distillers and distributors, each of whom is donating all their products to support the effort. The event will also include live music from The Mark Sterbank Group and the Lowcountry Voices gospel choir.
Tickets for the event are $200 per person and 100% of proceeds will be donated directly from the Community United Fund to the nine families.
Money is also being raised for the Community United Fund through an online auction. Anyone wishing to donate an item, experience, or service to the auction is encouraged to email EllenGansen@gmail.com. Please include name of item, value of item and donor's name.
To date, organizers have received Grammy Award ticket packages, European fly/stay/train packages, a weekend for two in New York, and more than 100 works of art. Bidding is available until midnight July 9th.
