Happy new year from Holy City Sinner. Welcome to the Weekend Buzz on Holy City Sinner. Here's what's happening the third full weekend of January 2019. The following is a list of just a few events and happenings you might want to take part in during the weekend. Consider the list a cornucopia of happenings around the low country of Charleston. The Taste of Folly 2019 takes place Friday & Saturday. This event will showcase everything Folly with a special emphasis on Folly’s eclectic culinary scene. The festivities will kick off on Friday night with the Cannon Distillery Cocktail Competition, featuring craft cocktails from Folly establishments. On Saturday, the restaurants will take to Center Street to serve up their best dishes and exhibit their skills through live demonstrations. Enjoy a Street Festival, cooking demos, a hot dog eating contest, chili cook off, oyster shucking contest, server Olympics, live music and a kids area. More at VisitFolly.com

Plenty of oyster roasts to get you ready for the Low Country Oyster Festival later this month. Come out to the Charleston Visitor Center & Bus Shed, 375 Meeting St Friday 6-9:30pm for 8th Annual Shuck-A-Rama. Proceeds benefit the Brain Injury Association of South Carolina. Bowens Island Restaurant, 1870 Bowens Island Road is the host location for Fields to Families Oyster Roast Fundraiser. Event takes place Sunday 2-5pm. What's better than supporting a wonderful local non-profit at a cool place with delicious food, great music and fun people on a beautiful day? Nothing, so we will plan to see you there! Join East Cooper Meals on Wheels for its sixth annual Oyster Roast 1-4pm Sunday at Palmetto Islands County Park in Mount Pleasant. Tickets are $35 for adults, $20 for everything but oysters and $10 for children (children 4 years and under are free). Guests will be required to pay the park admission fee ($2 per person; free for Gold Pass members and children 2 and under). . On Sunday 1-6pm enjoy the 3rd Annual Oyster Fest at Roost Bar 'N Grille, 825 Savannah Hwy in West Ashley. There will be an outside bar, oyster shooters, and live music. There will also be a charity cornhole tournament to benefit Veterans. Details at 843-718-2285.

The Dinner Detective - America's Largest, Interactive, Murder Mystery Dinner Show takes place 6pm Saturday the Embassy Suites Convention Center in North Charleston. The Charleston Music Hall is busy this Sunday. CMH presents 'Women's Adventure Film Tour' on Sunday with show time at 7pm. The world is blessed with some amazing, female adventurers, but recently their stories were rarely seen on the big screen with adventure film festivals dominated. Tickets $12 advance and $15 DOS. The North Charleston Coliseum complex is busy this weekend. Your SC Stingrays play host to the Orlando Solar Bears all weekend. The puck drops at 7pm Friday & Saturday night and 3pm Sunday afternoon. Visit the box office or call 800-745-3000 for more.

Also on Saturday 2-4pm at the coliseum it's time for the 5th Annual Deputy Joe Matuskovic Memorial Hockey Game. On September 8, 2014, Charleston County Sheriff’s Deputy Joe Matuskovic was killed in the line of duty. The Fraternal Order of Police Tri-County Lodge #3, in partnership with the South Carolina Stingrays, continue to honor his memory. The Charleston Enforcers will play the Charleston Patriots. Sea Kayak Carolina, 118 May Lane Mt. Pleasant will host a 13.5 Mile Ashley River One Way Trip on Saturday beginning at 11am. They will launch from Remleys Point Public Boat Landing and paddle under the Ravenal Bridge around the Charleston Peninsula/Rainbow Row and up the Ashley river landing at WO Thomas Jr Boat Landing. Paddlers will leave their cars in at the launch parking lot and shuttle transportation will be provided back to the launch after the trip. Info at 843-352-2267.

Several local wine shops offer wine tastings on Friday night to kick off TGIF. Over in Mt. Pleasant join Des at Crushed Fine Wine at 716 S Shelmore Blvd from 5-7pm as he hosts locals and samples some of the finest wines from around the world and different regions of America. Charleston Stage Co. present 'Number The Stars' this weekend only. As German troops begin to “relocate” all the Jews of Denmark, 10-year-old Annemarie Johansen’s family takes in Annemarie’s best friend Ellen Rosen. Through Annemarie’s eyes, audiences watch the Danish resistance help almost the entire Jewish population of Denmark—more than 7,000 souls—escape across the sea to Sweden. Woolfe Street Playhouse at 34 Woolfe Street present 'All About You- A True Story'. The Village Rep is pleased to present this world premiere production, All About You by Liz Butler Duren, based on her award winning memoir. Directed by Keely Enright. She was adopted.The discovery shatters her sense of self and family and propels Liz on a 30-year journey to find the mother who gave her away. Pure Theatre open their run of Sam Shepard's 'True West'. Sons of a desert-dwelling alcoholic and a suburban wanderer clash over a film script. Austin, the achiever, is working on a script he has sold to producer Sal Kimmer when Lee, a demented petty thief, drops in. He pitches his own idea for a movie to Kimmer, who then wants Austin to junk his bleak, modern love story and write Lee's trashy Western tale. This American classic explores alternatives that might spring from the demented terrain of the California landscape. Weekend performances Jan 11th - Feb 2nd. 34 West Theatre Co. at 200 Meeting Street present 'She Drives Me Crazy'. Last summer’s 3 month sellout returns! A five-story walkup is overrun with love, angst, and the pursuit of better coffee. It’s Friends meets Seinfeld in this new romantic-comedy, with tunes from Celine to Spin Doctors. Prepare for a hilarious '90's night out! The Black Fedora 164 Church Street downtown, offers clean comic whodunit shows most evenings, featuring volunteer audience participation and a la carte appetizers, desserts, and drinks. One-half block off the City Market. $24. A variety of audience participation mysteries that will delight all ages. Among the shows being offered up include 'Sherlock's Other Brother by a Southern Mother', 'Murder Aboard the Starship Fed Ora', 'Inspector NoClue's Murder Mystery', and 'Church Street Daughters of the Late Unpleasantness Garden, Gun, and Gin Club'. If you love to laugh than Theatre 99 is the place to go. This weekend 99 joins in the annual Charleston Comedy Festival. Theatre 99 and Charleston City Paper are proud to present the 16th Annual Charleston Comedy Festival January 16 - 19.
