Celebrate this Mother’s Day weekend by supporting a cause that helps women (and their families) suffering from postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, and postpartum psychosis. Postpartum Support Charleston will host the 11th Annual 5K Moms’ Run on Saturday, May 10th at Blackbaud Stadium starting at 8:30 am.
A Family Fun Day celebration including music, free food, and children’s activities will follow the run. This portion of the event is free to registered race participants or a $10 donation per family for non-race participants.
Race registration is $25 for adult runners, $30 for stroller registration (includes child T-shirt), and $15 for children 10-and-under. If you register by April 30th, you will receive a T-shirt, printed bib, and race bag. Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more; email [email protected] for more information.
About Postpartum depression (information provided by Postpartum Support Charleston)
More than 20 percent of new moms will experience postpartum depression in the first year after the birth of a baby. Symptoms include: feelings of anger or irritability; lack of interest in the baby; appetite and sleep disturbance; crying and sadness; feelings of guilt, shame or hopelessness; loss of interest, joy or pleasure in things you used to enjoy; and possible thoughts of harming the baby or yourself.
