On Thursday, March 27th, the Center for Women (C4W) will be throwing a party complete with an open bar and appetizers, but that won’t be the most important part of the night. The C4W organization, which will be announcing some “big and exciting” changes during the event, is celebrating the re-dedication to its mission.
The organization has been helping Lowcountry women succeed, professionally and personally, through programs, services, and events. In a nation (and especially a region) where women are still struggling for equality, the C4W is taking “small steps to make a big change.” The organization plans to share the strides they’ve made during this event.
The party will be held at the Lighthouse on Shem Creek beginning at 5 pm. Local singer Lily Slay (The Royal Tinfoil) will be performing during the event.

THE BAD
- SC ranks 42nd in poverty among women.
- Women make up less than 10% of the policy-making bodies in SC.
- Only one woman serves in the state senate and state house. SC has the lowest number of women elected to state legislatures.
- The average woman (nationwide) continues to be paid 77 cents for every dollar the average man earns.
THE GOOD
- In SC, women-owned firms grew by 64% between 1997 and 2011 compared to 50% nationally
- Female self-employment increased by 5% between 2000 and 2011.
