Since Summerville bills itself as the "Birthplace of Sweet Tea," the record-breaking iced beverage will indeed be sweet tea.
During the early afternoon, a group will start making a single 2,400 gallon glass of tea using local tea leaves from the Charleston Tea Plantation and sugar from Dixie Crystals. The "Record Smashing Tea Party" begins at 5 pm and will include the record-breaking attempt, live music, food vendors, and more. Plus, if all goes according to plan, an adjudicator from the Guinness Book of World Records will verify and present the record for the "World's Largest Iced Tea" just before the party.
