Moon Over Middleton Place: The Great American Eclipse at Middleton Place

Middleton Place will host a solar eclipse viewing with educational and fun activities on Monday, August 21st from 10:30 am to 4 pm. "Moon Over Middleton Place" will be held on the Greensward, the 11-acre lawn in front of the House Museum.

Planned programs include:

  • A “Meet the Scientist” presentation with Jenny Mantini, an astronomer from the College of Charleston
    • She'll discuss the phenomenon of the eclipse and connect it with how humankind’s evolving understanding of the cosmos played a role over many centuries in the advancement of knowledge
  • Young scientists will be introduced to some of the tools that were employed to enhance man’s ability to navigate across oceans and continents
  • Demonstrations
  • Hands-on activities
  • Family Fun Craft Tent
  • The Middleton Place Restaurant’s smoker trailer will be serving Lowcountry favorites
  • The first 500 visitors will receive eclipse-viewing glasses.
