The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center is hosting a job fair on Saturday, August 25th for Veterans interested in working at the medical center and its affiliated outpatient clinics along the South Carolina and Georgia Coast. The event will be held in the hospital’s main auditorium, located at 109 Bee Street in downtown Charleston, from 10 am to 2 pm.
Nationally, The Department of Veterans Affairs has set a target to have 40 percent of the overall workforce made up of Veterans. This job fair aims to educate Veterans on how to apply for federal employment with the goal of increasing the number of Veterans employed at Charleston VAMC.
“As a medical center that serves Veterans, we find that Veterans that work for us provide a very valuable resource,” said Charleston VAMC Equal Employment Opportunity Manager Desralei Jackson. “Educating interested Veterans on how to navigate the federal application process helps our hospital increase the pool of applicants to find the most qualified employees to provide high quality health care services to our Lowcountry heroes.”
Veterans in attendance can expect to learn what a federal resume looks like, and how to establish an account, upload documents and apply on USAjobs.com. They will learn about special hiring authorities for Veterans, and be introduced to other community resources that can help them prepare a federal resume and improve their interview skills. Information about current vacancies will be provided along with assistance in applying for positions at the seminar. In addition to employment at Charleston VAMC, community partners will be on-site with information about available private sector positions.
