Charleston Dermatology, a North Charleston-based medical practice, has opened a satellite office in West Ashley. Dr. Adam Sperduto, one of the practice’s three founders, is seeing patients on Fridays between 8 am and 4 pm at 2291 Henry Tecklenburg Drive. He is primarily focusing on performing Mohs Micrographic surgery at this location.
Dr. Sperduto is one of seven fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic and reconstructive surgeons. He completed his Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology fellowship at Surgical Dermatology Group and specializes in treatment of all types of skin cancers in patients of all ages.
“Living along the coast, we encounter a lot of cases of varying types of skin cancer,” explained Dr. Sperduto, a board-certified dermatologist. “Being able to perform the Mohs surgery at both our main office in North Charleston and at this satellite office will allow us to satisfy a real need in the Lowcountry.”
Mohs surgery is the most effective treatment for most types of skin cancer with a success rate of up to 99 percent. The procedure involves surgically removing the different layers of skin cancer tissue until healthy, cancer-free tissue around the tumor is reached.
