Pediatric dentist Kids Teeth is hosting its first "Be A Dentist Day" on April 27th, giving local kids a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to work as a dentist.
Children will rotate through four stations with hands-on activities and tasks, so they get a feel for a day in the life of a dental hygienist and dentist. Activity stations include:
- Hygiene Station - perform a mock hygiene appointment
- Camera Station - look inside your mouth with an inter-oral camera and view X-rays
- Station 3: Impression Station - make a tooth mold and learn how to make a mouthguard
- Station 4: Filling Station - using real tools, remove a cavity and learn how to perform a dental filling.
Each child will receive a certificate after completing all four stations.
Be A Dentist Day will be offered at the Kids Teeth location in Park West (1130 Professional Lane). Sessions times are Saturday, April 27th from 9:30 am to 10:30 am and 11 am to noon. Children ages 7-12 are invited to attend free of charge. Space is limited to 40 children per session, so registration is required. RSVP to [email protected]. Parents may drop their child off for the session.
“We recognize that visiting the dentist can be intimidating for children and a little stressful for parents, so we wanted to invite children to experience what it’s like to be a dentist in a relaxed setting,” Dr. Will MacDonald said. “Kids can use the real dental tools, view X-rays and learn about filling cavities. Our hope is they will have a better understanding of what goes on during a dental visit so they’re more relaxed when they come in for an appointment. Plus, they might even pick up some pointers on good dental health.”
