WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary walked off with a 4-3 win over College of Charleston on Saturday evening to clinch a series victory after Joey Mundy (Huntington, W.Va.) launched a pinch-hit, game-tying two-run home run in the ninth to cap a three-run Cougar rally.
William & Mary (27-19, 9-11 CAA) plated four runs on 11 hits and left 15 runners on base to jump into fourth in the CAA standings. The Tribe held College of Charleston (28-18, 10-7 CAA) to three runs on five base knocks as the Cougars stranded six baserunners.
Mundy accounted for two of the Cougars three runs with a pinch-hit, two-out, two-run home run in the ninth – his second pinch-hit bomb of the season – while Luke Manzo (Marietta, Ga.) reached three times in a 2-for-4 effort.
Tradd James (Sumter, S.C.) tossed two and one-third scoreless frames in relief, while Josh Price (Dillon, S.C.) struck out three and scattered two hits in four shutout innings out of the bullpen. Nathan Ocker (Middletown, Pa.) suffered the loss after allowing one run on two hits in three and one-third innings.
Matt McDermott drove in the winning for the Tribe with an RBI double in the 13th. Zach Pearson, Jack Cone, Kyle Wrighte, and Brandon Racqueteach collected two hits. Wrighte and Jason Waldman both plated one run.
Bodie Sheehan surrendered one unearned run on three hits and struck out five in seven frames. Randy Prosperi was tagged for two runs over one and two-thirds, while Chris Farrell fanned five in four and one-third shutout innings to earn the win.
The Cougars and Tribe will meet in the series finale tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
