On Friday, July 12th, PURE Theatre will open Becoming Dr. Ruth by Mark St. Germain as their 2019 Summer Slam production. Directed by PURE Theatre Artistic Director and Co-Founder Sharon Graci, the play features Teralyn Tanner Reiter as Dr. Ruth Westheimer, the face of television and radio sex therapy throughout the 1980’s.
Everyone knows Dr. Ruth Westheimer from her career, but few know the journey that preceded it. "What an amazing woman!” says PURE Theatre Artistic Director, Sharon Graci. “Prior to discovering Becoming Dr. Ruth, I was completely unaware of just how extraordinary Dr. Westheimer's life has been.
If we only consider her work as America's most renowned sex therapist, we really are only getting the smallest part of her picture. From fleeing the Nazis in her native Germany, to her training as a sniper in Jerusalem, to struggling as a single mother, to advocating tirelessly for women's rights, she has always been an exceptional maverick thinker and crusader, tirelessly fighting for what she believes is right.”
Following its opening on July 12th, 2019, this production will run through July 28th, 2019 at the Cannon Street Arts Center at 134 Cannon Street. Regular performance times are Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 pm with matinee performances on Saturday, July 20th and Sunday, July 28th at 3 pm. There will not be a performance on Friday, July 26th.
