Holy City Sinner's Top Ten Stories of 2019

It was another newsworthy year in Charleston (and another successful year for Holy City Sinner). As we welcome in 2020, let's take a look at the blog's most viewed stories from 2019.

Here's the list, starting with the most viewed story of the year (click on the headline to see the original post):

    1. Brookgreen Gardens to Host Bruce Munro Southern Light Exhibit
      • Brookgreen Gardens, a National Historic Landmark and non-profit organization located in Murrells Inlet, in August announced "Bruce Munro at Brookgreen: Southern Light," was coming to the property in Spring 2020. The exhibit will consist of seven works of art in light and mixed media, each designed specifically for the natural garden rooms where they will be installed. Was this the year's most-viewed post because people confused "Bruce Munro" with "Bruno Mars"? Possibly.
    2. P&C: Hominy Grill to Close
      • In April, residents and visitors alike were shocked to hear that Hominy Grill, perhaps the peninsula's most famous restaurant, was closing after over two decades of serving the Charleston community. Robert Stehling, the restaurant's James Beard award-winning owner and chef, told The Post & Courier's Hanna Raskin that the decision to close was because he was ready for a break after 24 years in business.
    3. Thomas Ravenel Pleads Guilty to Assault and Battery, Receives No Jail Time
      • It seems anything Thomas Ravenel does becomes news - especially since it's usually bad news for the Southern Charm cast member. In September, T-Rav pleaded guilty to third degree assault and battery, but received no jail time. The plea deal stemmed from his September 2018 arrest on a sexual assault charges involving his children’s former nanny.
    4. Extras Needed for New HBO Series Filming in Charleston
      • Charlestonians started the year bursting with excited over the prospect of being an extra in actor and Charleston resident Danny McBride's new HBO series, The Righteous Gemstones. The show was filmed throughout the Charleston area and premiered in August. It was such a big hit, HBO ordered a second season.
    5. Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen Enjoying The Ride
      • Fans of Cheap Trick flocked to the site in October to read Holy City Sinner's interview with the band's founding member Rick Nielsen. The guitarist spoke with HCS prior to the band's October performance with ZZ Top at the Volvo Car Stadium on Daniel Island.
    6. Southern Charm Returns for 6th Season in May; Watch the Trailer Now
      • In March, people logged on to Holy City Sinner to view the first trailer for the 6th season of Southern Charm. The series returned in May and planned to come back in 2020, but filming has reportedly been delayed.
    7. Tickets Now Available for Brookgreen Gardens’ Nights of a Thousand Candles
      • Brookgreen's June announcement that their holiday light display known as "Nights of a Thousand Candles" would be coming to the property in December had HCS readers immediately excited. The annual display features over 2,700 hand-lit candles and countless sparkling lights set among sculptures, trees, and flowers.
    8. Chef Sean Brock Talks to "CBS This Morning" About Mental and Physical Health in the F&B Industry
      • Readers were very interested to watch Chef Sean Brock's (formerly of Charleston's Husk, Minero, and McCrady's) December appearance on CBS This Morning. Brock discussed his career in the restaurant industry and why he walked away from it.
    9. WATCH: Danny McBride Talks Charleston, Kanye West Visit on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"
    10. Skinful Halloween Returns After Six-Year Hiatus with Method Man & Redman
      • HCS readers were thrilled to learn that the somewhat mythical Skinful Halloween party would make its long-awaited return to the Holy City. After a six-year hiatus, event organizers announced Skinful would return with headliners Method Man and Redman.

FYI - I did not include the homepage, daily calendar, Restaurant lists, resource guides, "What's Open" lists, or posts published prior to 2019, which all rack up a lot of page views throughout the year.
