Puppetry Arts Theatre of Charleston Developing Arts Center For Local Artists and Nonprofits

Press Release

Puppetry Arts Theatre of Charleston announces the development of The Puppetry Arts Center for Civic and Cultural Empowerment, or PACE, an arts and theatre venue designed to support local artists and non profits providing resources to help close the gap between the creative goals of artists and their audiences and making that creative and educational programming more affordable and accessible to the community as a whole.

Puppetry Arts has identified a proposed 13,000 square-foot North Charleston location to house this new center. The organization is encouraging local arts nonprofits and artists in need of a venue to house their programming or work to apply for performance, gallery, workshop, and office space. PACE will have a fully operational stage and a blackbox, a gallery and museum for new artists and historical work, classrooms for school visits, and offices.

"As an institution, Puppetry Arts is dedicated to the incredibly important issues of civic and cultural empowerment in our community through the arts,” Laurie Schultz, Board Member of Puppetry Arts, said. “A venue like this will secure positive and consequential change for local artists, arts organizations, parents, teachers, and youth from all communities across the Lowcountry."

It is the mission of Puppetry Arts to offer creative and cultural exploration to all individuals through the multidisciplinary art of puppetry by providing a venue for emerging artists, innovative teachers, and community members to facilitate youth development, enrich family activity, empower civic responsibility, and to engage and entertain the communities of Charleston and beyond.

“Puppetry Arts is poised to change the culture of our community with this endeavor,” Ce Fitts-Scott of the South Carolina Arts Commission said. “Impacting thousands from Charleston to New York over its 20 year history, the standards and accomplishments of Puppetry Arts will secure an invaluable resource for art and theatre. Their passion for collaboration and support for fellow artists and organizations is refreshing and inspiring."

Puppetry Arts intends this venture to be a collaborative fixture of the community and is actively seeking partners to move forward. Arts organizations and nonprofits seeking information or to invest in this mission can contact info@puppetryarts.org.
