Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg, Police Chief Luther Reynolds, Myrtle Beach Police Chief Amy Prock, Rev. Dr. Krystal Sears of Greater St. Luke AME Church and Rev. Dr. Kylon Middleton of Mount Zion AME Church will host the 5th Annual National Police Week Law Enforcement Appreciation Service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2020 at Greater St. Luke AME Church, located at 78 Gordon Street.
The tribute will feature performances by Charleston Symphony brass and percussion musicians, as well as Bagpiper Bill Nuttall.
At the event's conclusion, a police motorcade will assemble outside the church and proceed to Brittlebank Park, where 22 roses will be laid at the Police Memorial in honor of the 22 Charleston Police Officers who have been killed in the line of duty since the department was established.
Mayor Tecklenburg has issued a proclamation naming May 10 – 16, 2020 National Police Week in the city of Charleston. In accordance with federal law, all flags outside city of Charleston buildings will be flown at half-staff on Friday, May 15, 2020 to honor the many sacrifices of members of law enforcement.
