Willette S. Burnham-Williams, Ph.D., interim chief equity officer for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), announced that Chase Glenn (pronouns: He/Him) has been named the first-ever MUSC director of LGBTQ+ Health Services and Enterprise Resources.

In collaboration with health system and university leaders, the director is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the delivery of select resources, programs and services across the MUSC enterprise, to include the Regional Health Network and select programs across the state. The director will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of policy, programs and services for all of MUSC LGBTQ+ community members. Glenn will begin his new role on April 19th.

“I am excited to welcome Chase to the MUSC community,” said Burnham-Williams. “As a transgender man, he brings real-world experience, personal insight and proven leadership to this challenging new role. Our teams look forward to engaging with him to move our forward-looking diversity, equity and inclusion programs to an even higher level,” she said.

Since July 2017, Glenn has been executive director of the Alliance for Full Acceptance (AFFA), an LGBTQ advocacy organization based in Charleston. Prior to AFFA, for five years he worked in account management at Blackbaud, a software provider that works with some of the largest nonprofit organizations in the country.

In addition to his professional commitments, Glenn has served on several South Carolina nonprofit boards and committees including the Charleston Pride Festival, South Carolina Equality where he chaired the TransAction Committee, and the Coastal Community Foundation BridgeBuilders. He is also a graduate of the Furman University Diversity Leaders Initiative program.

An Illinois native and Charleston area resident since 2006, Glenn holds a B.A. in religion from Belmont University as well as an M.A. in counseling from Webster University. He and his spouse, Colleen, live in Hanahan with their two children.
