After 3 sold-out months of their current production Uptown Girl, 34 West will open the disco-infused musical comedy Stayin’ Alive just in time for summer. Written and performed by co-founders Stephen Wayne and Jeff Querin, along with Rebecca Kelley, the story follows a daytime TV star in pursuit of love, life, and bellbottoms.
“This show sold out its entire run in 2017,” Wayne said. “It’s hysterical, endearing, and most of all, totally groovy.”
Known for writing and producing original works for Charleston audiences, 34 West is happy to have survived the pandemic this past year.
“We had over 300 season ticket holders and patrons donate their tickets back to the theater this past year so that we could ‘keep the lights on,'” Wayne said.
34 West re-opened last November with social distancing measures in place and at 1/2 capacity.
“As these sold out months have demonstrated, there is a way to produce entertaining and innovative live productions while maintaining responsible health practices,” Wayne said.
All live performances are held at the theater’s downtown venue at 200 Meeting Street (corner of Meeting/Pinckney). For tickets and info, visit 34west.org.
